What can Botox cosmetic do for you?
Wrinkles around the eyes and around the forehead have many causes. Muscles contracting under the skin are a major contributor to the appearance of these fine lines and wrinkles. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles in and around the forehead contract to push the eyebrows together. This results in the appearance of vertical lines between the eyebrows, sometimes called elevens due to the appearance of the number 11 on the forehead. Similarly, when you raise your eyebrows (which we do a lot more than we realize) you create horizontal lines across the forehead, which can become permanent with time. The same thing happens around your eyes with squinting, or even a really big, natural smile. Botox can put a stop to the formation of those lines, while still maintaining your facial expressiveness.
Botox is a widely recognized neurotoxin injectable. It has been in use for over 25 years by medical professionals to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead area. Botox® is the name for a highly purified version of botulinum toxin A. Botox is injected into the skin with a very tiny needle. Many patients are shocked at how small the needle is, how little discomfort they feel, and how shallow the injection is. Radiant Skin does offer an optional numbing cream prior to injecting, which greatly minimizes, and even eliminates any potential discomfort during the procedure. Botox treatment can be completed in minutes, with very few side effects. After the procedure, you may notice some redness, or a slight bump at the injection site. This is normal and will dissipate in about an hour.
Botox works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet to form over time. By blocking the signal telling your muscles to contract, you will no longer be able to create the creases on your face which lead to permanent wrinkles. Occasionally patients worry that they will lose the expressiveness of their face. Because there are so many muscles in the facial structure, expressiveness is not compromised. Botox treatments last between 3 and 6 months, depending on the patient.
