Microdermabrasion

What it is

Microdermabrasion is a gentle, and increasingly popular, exfoliation process that rejuvenates skin by gently scraping off your body’s superficial layer of dull, sun-damaged, dead skin cells. In microdermabrasion, a wand-shaped instrument embedded with tiny crystals both exfoliates and suctions, to simultaneously scrape off and vacuum away dead skin cells and other impurities.

By both exfoliating and suctioning, microdermabrasion leaves your complexion looking younger and fresher immediately. As part of the exfoliating process, your underlying skin cells are also triggered to produce more collagen and elastin, which causes your skin to look smoother, tighter, and more youthful as your skin cells multiply.

Since microdermabrasion involves no lasers or chemicals, it is suitable for all skin types, and particularly favored among clients with sensitive skin.

What to expect

After your first microdermabrasion session, you’ll see noticeable results of smoother, more even skin. Permanent results – particularly noticeable for those with wrinkles, acne scarring, and uneven skin tones – can be achieved in 4-5 sessions. Since microdermabrasion involves sucking away dead skin cells, it also alleviates clogged pores around the nose, mouth, and chin.

The treatment comes with no down time, and most clients experience little to no discomfort during treatment (just a light exfoliating sensation). Some patients experience mild redness for 30-60 minutes following treatment.

The process

Using diamond-tipped crystals applied to the skin along with a light vacuum, your licensed technician will lightly apply pressure with the applicator to exfoliate and suction off dead skin cells. With regular microdermabrasion treatments, we are able to treat fine lines and wrinkles, shallow acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, dull skin, and uneven skin tones and textures.

Taking less than an hour, microdermabrasion can be done during a lunch break. For added exfoliation, a chemical peel can be added to any microdermabrasion treatment.

Microdermabrasion vs Dermaplaning

At Radiant Skin, we recommend microdermabrasion for those looking to both exfoliate and improve clogged pores. Dermaplaning, performed with a gentle scraping action, is recommended for clients with dry or particularly sensitive skin, and those looking to eliminate ‘peach fuzz.’
