Botox, Dysport and Xeomin

While wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and forehead have a variety of causes, one major contributor to those creases and crow’s feet are your muscles. When we frown, fret, or simply concentrate, the muscles of our forehead contract and furrow our eyebrows. Regularly raising our eyebrows results in a furrowed brow, while squinting and smiling broadly creases the skin around our eyes.

Over time, these repeated muscle contractions result in permanent vertical creases (‘elevens’), forehead wrinkles, and eye lines (crow’s feet).

Botox®

What it is

The main ingredient in Botox® is a highly purified version of a neurotoxin which, in spite of its alarming name, is perfectly safe when administered by a licensed professional, such as those who administer Botox in our medical spa.

Widely recognized within the medical community, Botox has been in use as a professional, medical age-defying option for more than 25 years. The patented formula smoothes lines and creases, and prevents further wrinkles from forming, while allowing you to maintain a naturally expressive face.

Worried about long-term side-effects from Botox? Since it’s used to temporarily prevent muscle movement, most individuals using Botox experience no symptoms or only mild, short-term symptoms, such as headaches or dry eyes. More serious symptoms, such as problems with vision, are extremely rare. The best guarantee for safe, effective Botox treatments is having your Botox injections performed by an experienced, licensed medical professional, such as those at Radiant Skin medical spa.

What to expect

Botox works beneath the skin’s surface to target underlying muscle activity. By blocking the signal that causes your muscles to contract, Botox® prevents your skin from creasing and contracting, thus preventing wrinkles from forming.

You’ll start to see the smoothing results of your Botox® treatment within 3 to 4 days (though it may take up to 10), and the effects last anywhere from 3 to 4 months, depending on the patient and the area of injection (the smaller the muscle, the longer it lasts).

Worried about losing your face’s natural expressions or numbness? No need! With more than 40 muscles in your facial structure, Botox® doesn’t compromise your natural expressiveness. The effect of Botox® is highly localized, so it stays where it’s injected, allowing neighboring muscles to perform naturally.

As for fears of numbness, Botox® only affects the brain’s signals to move the muscles, not the brain’s ability to feel the areas where Botox® was injected. That gentle hand stroking your face? You’ll feel every inch of it.

The process

The process of administering Botox® is extremely straightforward: using a very small needle, a licensed professional administers a shallow injection into the skin, a process which can be completed in minutes with very few side effects.

While many patients are astonished at how small the needle is, how shallow the injection, and how minimal their discomfort, we offer an optional pre-procedure numbing cream to minimize or eliminate any potential discomfort.

Dysport®

What it is

Dysport® injections, a popular alternative to Botox®, are a slightly modified, injectable version of the same purified neurotoxin in Botox® that stops localized muscles from contracting, thus preventing wrinkles from forming.

What to expect

Dysport®  is reconstituted differently, so it spreads across a slightly larger area than Botox®, which serves as an advantage in certain regions of the face like the forehead.  Typically fewer injections are needed to achieve the same results. Dysport® injections typically take effect more rapidly that Botox® – in only 2 to 5 days – and lasts an average of 3 to 4 months.

As with Botox® and Xeomin®, there is no down-time for this procedure, and it can be added on to any service, or performed during a short lunch break.

The process

Our licensed professionals administer a small, shallow injection of Dysport to your forehead, brow area, or outer eye region, in a manner virtually identical to that for Botox®. The main difference between Botox®  and Dysport is where the treatment is injected.

Xeomin®

What it is

Xeomin® is an alternative to Botox® and Dysport®, and is the only anti-wrinkle injection of purified botulinum toxin type A that is additive-free.

What to expect

Xeomin® typically starts to work within 3 days of the procedure, but can take as many as 10 days. Visible results last anywhere from 3 to 4 months.

The process

Our licensed professionals gently administer small injections to weaken muscles and block muscle movement in the forehead, eyebrow, and crow’s feet regions. Xeomin® requires no down-time, and can easily be added to any service, or performed as quick and simple procedure during a short lunch break.
